I think the implication is that, despite her strength, Anne is very very very lonely.
Agreed, it's obvious the proposal is genuine, and so sad that she's willing to settle for someone who treats her like crap just to have a companion. But that honestly isn't my issue, it's SW's creative choice to juxtapose that with Ann's pining, steadfast devotion. I just think that creates an unnecessary perceived imbalance in the relationship, which whilst possibly true to life, is just a little hard to watch.
Wow....great scene... HBO really sucks I guess. Hoping I can purchase the BBC version eventually (in digital form) as I really don't bother with DVDs anymore. Thanks for sharing.

It's one of the things I find the most compelling about her, because I can relate. She's "odd" and that's something that she takes everywhere. At Halifax she's vilified for it and among the rich she might be a bit of a curiosity, but there' s really no one like her around... and no one to really go home to every night, in spite of her flings and her more serious attempts to settle down with a woman.

Life is so crazy and pointless. Lol
I can't imagine the agony of being a lesbian back then. We live in fucking 2019 and I'm still a coward hiding who I am cause I'm too scared to hurt some people, I can't even imagine what I'd be like at their time. I'd prob agree that I had a demkn inside me and that I should stop living. Lol

Sophie Rundle: 'I got an email from my agent saying that there's this new series written by Sally, who I'd worked with before on Happy Valley. She said she'd like me to come in for Ann Walker and sent me six scripts. Having read them all I remember thinking this is one of the most extraordinary love stories I've ever read, regardless of the fact that these are two women it is just a beautiful love story. '

No. It's totally wrong to assume bisexual women have a natural preference for women. They may or may not.
Look, it's not a choice to be bisexual. Bisexuality is just another sexual orientation. Choice of specific partner is a whole different issue.
Sometimes people just fall in love believe it or not.

Good lord, of course sexuality isn't a choice. In that quote from SR for example, she meant that you can choose who to love in the sense that you don't have to hide it anymore and you're not just expected to marry a man, not that sexuality is a choice in itself, people.
