The idol is a porno show and Lily is naked having sex in every episode. I wonder why she agreed to do this. And I hope she doesn't regret it later. Emilia Clark regretted her scenes in GOT.

Because she wants Sydney Sweeney career? Who knows. I get she wants to get out from her dad's shadow and no longer called a nepo baby; but doing boring porn wont get her really anywhere serious

It was probably sold to her as a feminist show with a female director. Who knows how much SL changed when he took over

What frustrates me is that the Britney story (wich this is) could have been turned into a fantastic show about the exploitation of women in the entertainment industry. I have heard many times how the music industry treats women even worse than porn and it's not even close. Instead, they went for the cheap thrills. I just hope Lily knows the risk of turning into the next Elizabeth Berkley here.

I think the only actress recently to come out of a very explicit debut show and not have it affect her image is Riley Keough. After she did the Girlfriend Experience she was praised for the performance and wasn't typecast at all.

HBO is the one of the American networks that has a lot of sec scenes in show, they have a critically acclaimed show about prostitution for Pete’s sake.

Sex scenes on these “premium channels” like Showtime, Starz, HBO only get pushback when they seem wildly unnecessary, adding anything to the story other than shock value which is seen as low brow.

It originally was supposed to be that, under Amy Seimetz direction but The Weekend and Sam Levinson are both misogynistic, insecure douchebags.

Amy Seimetz was one of the writers for Riley Keough's season in The Girlfriend Experience. HBO fucked up a potentially good show for a Euphoria 2.0.

It originally was supposed to be that, under Amy Seimetz direction but The Weekend and Sam Levinson are both misogynistic, insecure douchebags.
Indeed, here is more info about it:
"The Idol was set to have a major creative overhaul and would be adjusting the cast and crew. There was little explanation for the shakeup, except for reports that The Weeknd, who is co-creator, felt the show was heading too much into a 'female perspective.'

In interviews with 13 members of the show’s cast and crew, Rolling Stone has learned the drastic delay was caused by Sam Levinson taking over as director and scrapping the nearly-finished $54-75 million project to rewrite and reshoot the entire thing.

With Amy Seimetz out of the picture, HBO handed the reins to Sam Levinson, only to have him weaken the show’s overarching message, many sources say, by dialing up the disturbing sexual content and nudity to match — and even surpass — that of his most successful show, Euphoria.
'What I signed up for was a dark satire of fame and the fame model in the 21st century,' one production member explains. 'The things that we subject our talent and stars to, the forces that put people in the spotlight and how that can be manipulated in the post-Trump world.' However, they add, 'It went from satire to the thing it was satirizing.'

Four sources say that Sam Levinson ultimately scrapped Amy Seimetz’s approach to the story, making it less about a troubled starlet falling victim to a predatory industry figure and fighting to reclaim her own agency, and more of a degrading love story with a hollow message that some crew members describe as being offensive.
'It was like any rape fantasy that any toxic man would have in the show — and then the woman comes back for more because it makes her music better,' one production member explains of Levinson’s version. "

Yep. It was more than halfway done when Abel's whiny ass complained that it's too feminist and he ran to Levinson and together created this henious shit. Lily and the other cast initially signed up for Amy's vision and storyline, it wasn't Lily's fault that it turned into this garbage. We can only hope that she was protected at least on set. Poor girl is surrounded by such toxic, abusive men all her life.

The first season of The Girlfriend Project was so good though. Riley got several noms for it. Her character was so interesting and always managed to hold the power in the more explicit scenes which were made to feel clinical and detached. When she didn't have that power the camera would just pan away from the scene or, in one instance, focus on her facial expressions instead. No body fluids or anything was shown.

It sounds like The Idol is purposelly focusing on the degradation of LRD's character during the explicit scenes, that sounds more exploitative.

Didn't she sign back when it was supposed to be directed by a woman, who was then fired by Weeknd? And I don't know how Johnny's influence was supposed to turn her to "liberalism" when he's a huge racist, homophobe and misogynist who protected from police a 23 year old man who was living with her when she was only 15, so you can take your dumbass political opinions elsewhere.
