Hmm, but I think that's only if you care about getting it in the least number of tries. If it's just about solving, the first word'll always tell you something, even if it's all grayGuest wrote: β15 Jan 2022, 03:48Wordle 210 3/6
So much of it comes down to being lucky with the first word

Yellow square means that letter is in the word but in a different place.
Dark square means that letter is not in the word, so don't bother using that letter in your next guesses.

It's okay. You'll get it when you start being more strategicGuest wrote: β15 Jan 2022, 15:50I decided to give wordle a try but I had no idea how it worked or what I was supposed to do, so I just typed in random words.

Lol, I see now what the anon meant about lucky first word. I think today's (210) just happened to use really common letters so your guess words would probably hit on all five, as mine did too:

Re: Puzzles Thread
Re WORDLE - Iβve been very strict and played this in hard mode ie not reusing letters already greyed out and always including yellows somewhere else.
If not obvious it would be more strategic to put in another word with popular letters at second/third guess.
Iβd get better results this way but enjoy the discipline.
Just wondered, how do you guys play?

Why would anyone not use all revealed hints in subsequent guesses? It seems counterproductive not to do that.
Re: Puzzles Thread
I've never tried the hard mode but it's what I basically do anyway lol.
I have about 5 first words. This is the only random pick. Then 2nd word based on what hits or doesn't. By the third word I usually have a fairly good idea, even if it's mainly through excluded letters. It moves into logic puzzle territory by the 3rd word basically
I focus on locking down the vowels first.

DA They might use the second guess for a word with no letters from the first one, even if they had some green or yellow hits already, just so they can find out more about the actual answer word.Guest wrote: β16 Jan 2022, 22:50I just use whatever is the default i.e. normal modeGuest wrote: β16 Jan 2022, 22:45Re WORDLE - Iβve been very strict and played this in hard mode ie not reusing letters already greyed out and always including yellows somewhere else.

Thanks! OK I see how that approach could help. Especially with the green letters. Weβre sensitive to the contraction of our name due to the English neighbours mocking us by using the word Scotch (word to the wise, never call us Scotch ) and other variations.

You explained it perfectly. The blocks are color coded for error type. When you know what the answer is, you can get a partial sense of how hard it would be for yourself in that situation.
