"Hightown is set on idyllic Cape Cod and follows one woman's journey to sobriety, intertwined with an unfolding murder investigation. Jackie Qui?â??ones (Monica Raymund, Chicago Fire, The Good Wife), a hard-partying National Marine Fisheries Service agent, has her free-wheeling life thrown into disarray when she discovers a body on the beach ?ó?Ç?ö another casualty of Cape Cod's opioid epidemic.
"As a result of this trauma, Jackie takes the first steps toward becoming sober ?ó?Ç?ö until she becomes convinced that it's up to her to solve the murder. Now at odds with Sergeant Ray Abruzzo (James Badge Dale of Only the Brave), an abrasive but effective member of the Cape Cod Interagency Narcotics Unit, Jackie starts to spiral. And she's not alone. Ray, too, spins out of control; losing himself in the investigation. The lives of everyone connected to this murder crash and converge, reminding us just how complicated ?ó?Ç?ö and deadly ?ó?Ç?ö our addictions can be."
Hightown deftly balances the portrayal of the nautical industries in the town at the tip of the cape with depiction of the queer life that has flourished there for nearly a century with the bars, shops, and restaurants that cater to LGBTQ people and the drag queens who line Commercial Street coaxing passers-by into their shows.
centers on Jackie Quinones, a hard-partying lesbian in Provincetown, MA, aka P-Town; a federal Fishery Service Agent who uses her gun and badge to seduce tourist chicks. She's none-too-enthusiastically putting in her time until she can draw a federal pension but everything changes when she discovers a body in Cape Cod Bay, and finds herself at the center of the Cape's gruesome heroin epidemic.
It'll be interesting to see how believable and realistic the love scenes are.
What a weird comment on your opening thread post. Girl there's lot of porn out there if that's all your looking for in a show.

I'd bet money she appears on the show. I don't know if she's trying to be "edgy" or come across as a "serious" actress, but she appears to almost like playing gay.
Anyway.
Here's more pics of the lead
She's so oddly racially ambiguous. Casting directors must love that.
The show just began filming so hopefully we get more casting info. Right now for the first episode the main cast is mostly men except for Monica and Riley Voekel, who played Freya on the Originals and currently on Roswell New Mexico. Unfortunately Riley's character is supposed to be love interest for two of the male cast members.
Amusing that this show was originally called P-Town but apparently had to change the title because Starz also has another showing coming out called P-Valley.

I already can tell this is gonna be dude heavy and the totally are gonna hook the '''lesbian''' with one of the dudes, at least i hope they call her bi from the get go.
Sorry if i sound too negative but lately is harder and harder to expect anything but the worst.

QMTA
Who's the black woman
They are characters from Black Lightning, don't go into it expecting much thou.
It seemed strong on the first season but its barely there from season two on.
CPCLRM20 wrote:has anyone be able to find out what exactly Riley Voelkel character is going to be on the show? besides the dancing and be the mother of the kid.
Voelkel will play Renee Shaw. Born and raised on the Cape, she's a survivor who has been shaped to believe relationships are transactional. Caustic at times, she keeps up an emotional wall only penetrable by her five-year-old son. The child is a product of her ongoing with relationship with Frankie, the biggest drug dealer on the Cape, who is currently serving time, which puts pressure on her from the police, leading her into a developing relationship with Detective Ray Abruzzo (Dale). She keeps her friends close and enemies closer. X
^thanks, her character sounds interesting (love her as Freya in The Originals - best character on that show), to bad that isn't the other office she's gets closer to
With the show out for early previewing on the Starz app and the TV premiere coming this Sunday, thought I would move this back up.
Won't go into the actual episode now since the premiere is upcoming but did want to note that Monica's character does say she is a 'gold star'. Really surprised that they actually went that specific.
Overall enjoyed the first ep enough that I'll watch again when it is on TV.

Glad to hear a positive review. I've seen some trailers and it looks like a show I could enjoy. Looking forward to it now.

I'm so happy that she is a ''gold star'' but on the other hand i'm afraid...because I don't want the writers to ruin her story.
In reality there are many gold star lesbians but on tv shows, a woman must sleep with a man, to test if she is a lesbian ^o)
Because a straight boy must have sex with a a man to test if he is gay or not...ridiculous!
Do you remember what happend with the show In the Dark....I try not to!

I'm intrigued by this show, but I have a bad feeling for some reason. Idk if it is the setting or the tone and now they have her saying she is a gold star. I can't remember a lesbian character that haven't been involved with a dude, be it shown on screen or only talked about. I'm still mad about In the Dark

Watched the series premiere on the STARZ app. Doesn't seem like Monica's character will be one of those "gold stars" who'll need to sleep with a dude to test if she's really a lesbian. Good wlw action in the episode and P-town as gay town USA is shown in its messy glory. It'll be interesting how the show progresses because after the initial action it seems like her storyline would run parallel to the other main storyline going forward but obviously they have to intersect again down the road.

No, it's the CW show. Jess told her girlfriend she never slept with a man, she never even saw a p----. And then all of a sudden, in the second half of the season, she threw herself at her male friend. She only withdrew when she saw his p----. I don't really know what was the point of this whole scene. I have no words.
I don't think the same thing is gonna happen to Jackie. Or at least I hope so.

Yes, the actress who plays Renee is hot, I agree with you it's a damn shame but I guess they have to throw a bone to the hets, lol.
Let’s get this thread up and running! The first 4 episodes of the show have already aired so there’s still time to get caught up.
The plot is interesting, the acting is great and the location is very cool, especially if you’ve never been to P-Town.
Monica is knocking it out of the park with her portrayal of Jackie, the main character. Girl has some acting chops (I’ve never seen her in anything except Chicago Fire, which I stopped watching).
I don’t want to give away any of the plot lines but if you still watching leave a message and we’ll figure out how to the conversation going!

I still have trauma after this show. Can't get over it and everytime I see Monica in something, I immediately link her with Gab and obviously Leslie. I'll check this out, just need some more time
At this point they made Monica secondary and the male cop is the main star of her show.
That’s not really true, although screentime is roughly split equally between Monica’s character and the male cop (with the younger fisherman dude running a close third), so the advertising was a little bait-y for focusing on her for their promo when she’s not exactly the main character or star of the show.
For the other poster asking there have been four episodes thus far.

I agree. It’s not accurate. It’s maybe half, probably less. To me Jackie (played by Monica) is central to the plot. They show her home life, her dating life, her work life and her recovery. Her character is way more fleshed out than Ray, the cop who the others posting above have stated is getting more air time. We only know about his work life and who he’s dating, which is directly related to his work. I think we know more about Jackie’s friend Junior than Ray.
Also I’m pretty sure Monica has top billing in the credits. She’s the star and the central character to the entire plot. Everyone else is supporting cast IMHO.
