I just love British accents, in all its forms.
Re: What's your favorite English accent?
VK's accent is Received Pronunciation English, also known as Queens English or BBC Newsreader English. It's considered to be the standard, uncorrupted form of British English, i.e. how the best of the best class of people speak and how everyone should/would do if they weren't uneducated plebs. So yes, posh. I'm not familiar enough with the others you listed to say if they also speak with it. But think Judy Dench and Joanna Lumley and Helen Mirren. Maybe even Emma Watson though it has been a while since I heard her speak so have no idea if her Hermione voice was her own.Guest wrote: ↑02 Mar 2023, 16:17British like Emily Blunt's, Vanessa Kirby's, Benedict Cumberbatch's, Tom Hiddleston's, and more.

Re: What's your favorite English accent?
The English accent, of course. Well spoken English is a wonderful language, that's why I love listening to the BBC. I also like the Scottish accent and some American accents, like Brent Goff's Southern accent. Can't stand the Irish, Australian and NZ accents, and the especially annoying LA accent. It's a shame most US series are now spoken like that. American English was much more beautiful on TV and film in the 1960s and 1970s.

Re: What's your favorite English accent?
There is no British accent. There are several accents in England, more than one Scottish accent, there's the beautiful Welsh accent, and the Northern Irish accent.Guest wrote: ↑02 Mar 2023, 16:56I can't stand British accent, so annoying.

Thanks. I read somewhere that Vannessa's accent is posh, but I didn't know it is the standard. In the VF video: I also like listening to Jeremy Iron's voice. He has a way of enunciating the words which sound lovely to my ears.

The UK accent(s) in Harry Potter sound cool, but when spoken in front of you, it's a completely different story.
Re: What's your favorite English accent?
I absolutely hate the US South. From Texas to Georgia I dislike them all. Transatlantic is annoying too because of the way they enunciate their words. Thank goodness it has mostly died out.

Re: What's your favorite English accent?
Same. I can't stand the loud voice of Americans on TV game shows, talk shows, YouTube presentations, which has become sort of a standard to for other countries too. So noisy. Proper English accent sounds soothing and melodious.Guest wrote: ↑02 Mar 2023, 16:46The English accent, of course. Re: What's your favorite English accent?
My favourite accent is the way Alicia Keys talks. She’s from New York but I love her deep sultry voice and style of speaking. My least fave is the way Adele talks. Love her singing voice but the way she talks hurts my ears.
Re: What's your favorite English accent?
Received Pronunciation. Not necessarily London but very common in middle/upper middle class boarding school types. As posh as it gets without actually being aristocracy.Guest wrote: ↑02 Mar 2023, 16:17British like Emily Blunt's, Vanessa Kirby's, Benedict Cumberbatch's, Tom Hiddleston's, and more.

Thanks. I should be more specific. As I have learned from the other posts here -- I am referring to the English accent -- most notably the one you and the other anon mentioned.Guest wrote: ↑03 Mar 2023, 02:46Received Pronunciation. I love listening to it because I can hear the words clearly, every letter is sounded or pronounced as it should be. It's neither nasal nor guttural, and it's not an exaggerated accent wherein I can barely make out the words they're saying. With apologies to Aussies' Strine, bacon and eggs sound like baked necks to me.
Re: What's your favorite English accent?
There is more than one Welsh accent, of course, but I can't name them. Tom Jones, for instance, a man of the people, speaks in one way, whilst Catherine Zeta-Jones speaks in another. On the other hand, Timothy Dalton and Anthony Hopkins still have a slight accent, but Michael Sheen not so much. Neil Kinnock has a distinctive Welsh accent too.Guest wrote: ↑03 Mar 2023, 17:41This. As for Northern Ireland, the Unionists have a different accent from the Irish Republicans, and the latter's is different from the Irish accent(s).
Re: What's your favorite English accent?
There is no Welsh accent either. There's a vast difference between South Wales and North Wales and even in those places. I went to university in Bangor North Wales and even the Caernarfon accent (about 5 miles away in one direction) is radically different from what you'd get in Bangor. Neither sound like the stereotypical Welsh accent which is usually a Valleys one

If you listen to audiobooks look out for anything narrated by Samuel West - it’s hard to distinguish him from Irons. Both have sumptuous voices - I’d listen to them narrate anything

Re: What's your favorite English accent?
My family is Irish and they say that as Americans we overpronounce everything. I can barely understand Irish people because they don’t enunciate and seem to even breathe in the middle of words. So much mumbling lol.
The one accent I cannot even attempt to mimic is Australian. That weird back of throat thing.

I came here to see if there was any love for the Baltimore accent, but I guess it's rather rare in America, so maybe no one outside the states even knows is exists.
