I enjoyed it. However, I do agree about the editing. The rumor was the show was originally 8 episodes and they cut it to 5 so I imagine a lot of things got cut.
I think Marvel dropped the ball by tying her to Hawkeye first when she's always been very much a Daredevil/Kingpin character. They should have introduced her in the Daredevil revival first imo. They also tried to market this show as being one of the more grittier MCU shows like the original Daredevil because that's what people were asking for but we didn't really see that in the actual show. There was one or two fight scenes that came close to that but I thought the final fight was lackluster.
I really would have liked some more time with this character because there is potential there. I just wish they wouldn't have cut her episodes the way they did because you can clearly see that her relationship with certain characters suffered in the process.
I don’t mind that she was introduced in Hawkeye because I think her story fit in decently. But I don’t think they should have continued the Kingpin storyline in this show because after she tried to kill him because that was an easy breaking off point since they claimed this was a Spotlight story. If they had wanted this to be a connecting piece between Hawkeye and Daredevil that’s totally fine. Either separate it or don’t, but in between is messy.
I think it’s frustrating because it feels like something that could have been solid if it had been allowed to be more clear in its purpose. It feels like the women and/or POC lead projects are the ones that get the most tampering. Like it doesn’t feel like this was the creator’s vision, but I can feel the bones in there somewhere.
I liked 'Echo' for the most part but I think Hawkeye should have got a second season more and find Kate Bishop a more likable character.
That’s a weird take because Echo has nothing to do with whether Hawkeye got a second season. They’re completely different shows, and Hawkeye is way more expensive to make as well. I bet the money they paid a no name actress adds up to the coffee budget of Hawkeye, when you factor in the salary Renner would be pulling down. Echo would not have impacted a season 2 of Hawkeye at all.
'Echo' is a spinoff of 'Hawkeye.' I know they are separate in the comics but 'Echo' spunoff into Maya's own show the same way that 'The Flash' spunoff 'Arrow' by having Barry Allen first appear in 'Arrow' to set him up for his own show. I just find it disappointing out of the Marvel Disney + shows 'Loki' gets a Season 2, 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' is getting a follow up movie, 'WandaVision' lead to Wanda getting a big role as the main villain in 'Doctor Strange 2', Moon Knight is getting a second season and 'What If' got a second season meanwhile Kate Bishop only gets a lousy small appearance at the end of 'The Marvels' and with 'The Marvels' now being deemed a flop we might not ever get to see what they were setting up (presumably a Young Avengers movie or show) since Kate could wear the blame for 'The Marvels' flopping but Maya gets her own spinoff show. Both Hailee Steinfeld and Jeremy Renner were pushing for a second season and the show got great reviews and had a lot of fans.
My understanding was that the Young Avengers thing has been the rumor for a while now. They are allegedly supposed to be apart of Avengers Kang Wars movies that were being planned out. That was supposedly the whole purpose of introducing characters like Kate, Echo, Ironheart, Ms Marvel, etc. Save for Loki, I don't think any of these Disney shows were designed to have more than one season.
The Young Avengers makes the most sense as they have unofficially retired so many of the OG characters at this point that who else but them are going to lead the next 3 Avengers films.
