I didn’t finish it, Lucy was so moody and weird towards Kate. I wouldn’t have minded as much if we had gotten another season because it felt like maybe it was building up to something but now that it’s over it was just a crappy season

I’d actually be okay if we got Hawai’i back and it was only Tori, like I love Kacy but Tori was the star of that pairing, whistler is an amazing character.

TVLINE | On a scale of 1 to 10, how surprised were you back in April? And how are you feeling about things now, three months later?
NASH, SILBER & BOSACK | We were obviously surprised. If we’d known it was coming, we probably wouldn’t have ended the series on a cliffhanger. The fact that the studio and the network didn’t stop us makes it seem like they might not have seen it coming either. We loved our show and know other people loved it, too, but the TV business is a fickle mistress and one can’t take business decisions personally. But it still stings.

TVLINE | What are you most proud of having accomplished over the three seasons?
NASH, SILBER & BOSACK | We did what we set out to do. We created a show with a strong female lead and a cast that reflected the diversity of Hawai’i and the world. We told interesting Navy crime stories. All while maintaining a workplace where people could hopefully do their best work and be valued for it. That gives us a lot to be proud of.

TVLINE | Turning to how the season finale ended, what can you say about the next words coming out of Maggie Shaw’s mouth? Did it have to do with Jane’s mom, teased earlier in the season?
NASH, SILBER & BOSACK | While not fully fleshed out, we had a general idea of where the Maggie story was going. It would have eventually intersected with Jane Tennant’s mother, but it was also going to move back into the dark world of Tennant’s spy past, using those stories to increase our understanding of who Jane was, but also to learn more about her team in the process

TVLINE | Was Lucy and Kate’s brief talk of weddings going to be revisited – perhaps pointedly — in Season 4?
NASH, SILBER & BOSACK | We hadn’t fully landed on what was going to happen in Season 4. But there would have been some movement. Whether it would have been a wedding, meeting families, or some other thing, we didn’t know.

TVLINE | In Season 4 might we have finally met Jesse’s wife and other kid? Or was the wife your “Vera from Cheers“?
NASH, SILBER & BOSACK | We started every season planning to meet her and she would have shown up eventually. (Hope springs eternal.)

TVLINE | Was there any other story or personal runner you couldn’t get to in the short Season 3 that was going to be a “must” during a full Season 4? For example, meeting some of Lucy’s family, keeping Peyton List around as Kai’s love interest, anything for Ernie or Carla or Joe or Boom-Boom… what have you.
NASH, SILBER & BOSACK | We loved our repertoire of characters and we would have kept using them as much as we could. We were talking about Tennant’s mom and Ernie’s ex-wife, but other than following up on our cliffhanger, there were no “musts” on the list. Our goals every season were the same: tells good stories with these great actors.

TVLINE | The #SaveNCISHawaii campaign valiantly marches on, with such passion from that heartbroken ohana. What’s your message to them?
NASH, SILBER & BOSACK | It’s pretty simple… thank you. We loved our show, and the fact that so many other people loved it too is gratifying. I agree! It’s getting a little better for me with time, but I have been (still am most of the time) really gutted that they canceled it. As you said, there was SO much potential and so many more stories to tell. And even though I always knew nothing is ever really certain, it felt good to “know” this would be a longer running show, with plenty of time to explore the couple

And the worst part is that it’s not just Hawai’i, it seems like every wlw show is getting cancelled. It’s like it’s getting worse than it has been in years!

I personally swore off most TV shows with lesbians after the cancellation. Now, I'll only watch those types of shows if it has a huge fan base and writers who actually care about their characters.
Depressingly, this leaves me with only one show, which is something I never thought I'd say 5 or 6 years ago.

These days, I'm happy reading my fanfics and even though, like you, I haven't watched any shows since the cancellation, I know in the future I'll only be watching/rewatching critically acclaimed/limited series.

I refuse to go through the heartbreak of losing my favorite characters or shows again.

As long as it's low budget, they'll keep it and axe good quality shows with solid ratings like Hawaii

I'm not interested in bisluts. Kacy was amazing because of the chemistry between Yas&Tori, the writing, the charaterization, their build up, etc...
I for sure won't be watching OG or anything CBS related. Their blatant homophobia and hatred for women has turned me off forever.

I hope that now we have no more strikes. NCIS: Sydney miserably tanks, and the same goes for *rigins. I hope the show with that creep fails too, but it seems unlikely as CBS looks like they are going all out for it, and their fans don't seem to care that the main lead is a misogynistic prick and some are amready painting his victim as a liar.

Like I said, it's common practice in fandoms. Let's not forget the same people move from one fandom to the other so they know the "magic trick".

It wouldn't surprise me at all if some are "cheating" this year in our fandom. I know some other fandoms do it for every polls but the previous years the numbers in our fandom were consistent (numbers for the show, actresses), not this year. I saw it was useless because of that and voted once then done.

I gotta agree with you... There is no point in complaining about Yas anymore. She moved on. She doesn't care about Hawaii. So why waste time and give her attention when she's over the show? Best to ignore and move on. Or engage in a more proficuous debate. She won't suddendly start parading around with a Kacy tshirt with a #saveHawaii all over it just because people wanted her to show some appreciation...
If anything, go write to CBS and complain they cancelled a great show with strong, female representation, full of POC actors and with a beloved lesbian couple, without any sense.

I watched it and enjoyed it, it’s really not that religious at all.
The interviewer mentions God/faith a few times but Yas never really elaborates about if she’s religious or not. The questions are more just about how people live their lives, Yas’ acting.
The interviewer mentions The Chosen and NCIS but they don’t actually talk about either.
She also talks about social media and obviously Texas and the Dallas cowboys haha

I didn't want to watch it/listen to it at first but I did just now thanks to your post and I actually enjoyed it very much! Obviously the host is very religious but it seems that it doesn't affect her negatively, she even mentioned how cool it is that Yas is able to do such different roles as NCIS Hawaii and The Chosen and at the very end she says she's going to be tuning into NCIS Hawaii episode on CBS on Monday (seems like they filmed this podcast at the end of February). So it was like actually very uplifting to see that not all religious The Chosen fans are excluding LGBT people/topics from their organizations or events or whatever. Very cool and insightful podcast overall.

Actors play a lot of different roles in their career and I think it’s normal that they’d get attached to some roles/characters more than others. I do think that Yas loved playing Lucy and NCIS Hawai’i but clearly The Chosen was something very special to her.
